Slumping Spinners Lose 6th Straight
|
Both offenses were relatively subdued at Edward A. LeLacheur Park. Fortunately for the Aberdeen Ironbirds, though, Nolan Battaglia was able to deliver in the clutch. He was 3 for 5 with 3 singles, to lead his team past the Lowell Spinners, 1-0. Dave Luke notched the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 1.1 innings. His record now sits at 1-0. Darren Babin earned the save for Aberdeen, his 1st.
Had Battaglia not come through in the top of the eighth, who knows how the game would've ended? But with two down, Battaglia hit a run-scoring single. The Ironbirds took the lead, 1-0, and never looked back.
"I warned the team before the game," losing manager Condon Murrell told reporters, "that I'm wearing the same pair of undies until we win."
To call the performance of the 2-10 Spinners woeful so far is an understatement.
