Aberdeen Listless in 8-0 Loss
|
The West Virginia Black Bears picked up a win at Dutchess Stadium, downing the Aberdeen Ironbirds, 8-0. On the mound for West Virginia was right-hander Chase Yamada, who played a pivotal role in the win. Yamada, now 1-0, was the winner. In 7.2 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 2, walking 0, and allowing no runs. The Black Bears, at 9-3, have a record worth crowing about.
Easton Poepping went 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 5 runs and scored once for West Virginia. The 21-year old first baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With no one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 0-0 tie with a run-scoring walk off Sean Butler. It was his 9th walk of the season.
"I just tried to stick to my strengths," said Yamada.
