Spinners Rally Late to Nip Black Bears

The Lowell Spinners knocked off the West Virginia Black Bears, 3-2, in New York-Penn League action at Edward A. LeLacheur Park. Lowell pitcher and Acarigua, Venezuela, native David Leiva had an outstanding performance. Jeremiah Mayhew closed the game out for Lowell, earning his 2nd save. West Virginia drops to 5-2.
Had Cristopher García not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 3rd, García hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Spinners.
"We had the right guys up at the right times," said West Virginia manager Juwan Henry. "We just didn't cash in."
