The State College Spikes turned back the Connecticut Tigers, 5-4, at Senator Thomas J. Dodd Memorial Stadium. A.J. Deddens, in particular, had a fine performance. He went 2-3 with a home run and 2 walks. He scored 2 runs. Lance Park went 6.1 innings for State College to pick up the win. The right-hander was charged with 2 runs. He scattered 5 hits, while walking 4 and striking out 5. His record improves to 1-0. Jake McMillan earned save number 1.
Dean Coots hit a run-scoring triple off Marc Negron in the top of the second, which put the Spikes in front, 1-0. Coots had 1 single, in addition to the triple. For the game, he went 2 for 4.
"We'll just keep our nose to the grindstone," Coots told the State College Chronicle.
Connecticut is 3-6 after the loss.
