The Yakima Valley Pippins inaugurated their 2052 season with a tough 3-2 loss to the Medford Flying Tigers at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Right Fielder D.J. Taylor had perhaps the best performance for Medford. Robby Huerta notched the win in relief. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 5 hits in 2.1 innings. His record now sits at 1-0. Roger Ferguson collected his 1st save.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Bonbon Mateo? The Medford center fielder had a run-scoring double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Flying Tigers on top, 3-1. For the game, Mateo had 1 double and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," Yakima Valley manager Hugo Brito said following the tough loss.
