The Lowell Spinners inaugurated the 2061 campaign with a disappointing 13-11 loss to the Vermont Lake Monsters in 10 innings at Edward A. LeLacheur Park. Vermont second baseman Maximo Roberts had a big impact on the outcome. He slugged 2 home runs. He scored 3 times and drove in 3.

K.J. Rice hit a run-scoring triple off Steve Travis in the top of the tenth, which put the Lake Monsters in front, 12-11. Rice had 2 singles, in addition to the triple. For the game, he went 3 for 7.

"No one wins," Rice said, "without the will to win."
