Connecticut Upended by Auburn, 6-2
|
Auburn Doubledays starter Júlio Fernández was in the groove. He led his team to a win over the Connecticut Tigers, 6-2. Fernández yielded 2 runs over 6.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 7 hits, walked 0, and struck out 6. His record improves to 1-0. Gavin Mendenhall nailed down his 1st save.
Auburn used the hitting of Gabe Diniz to pick up the win. The center fielder clubbed a run-scoring single in the top of the fourth inning to put the Doubledays on top, 3-0. For the game, Diniz had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"I think every team will tell you that the pitching sets the tone, especially the starters," said Auburn skipper Carlos Renteria.
The win gives Auburn a record of 3-1.
