The Brooklyn Cyclones put the giddy home crowd in an even more jubilant mood after beating the Connecticut Tigers in the season opener at MCU Park. Center Fielder Derek Renteria won plaudits for Brooklyn. He was 4-7 with 2 home runs and a double, while adding 8 RBI and scoring twice.

Renteria came through for the Cyclones in the bottom of the second inning. With Brooklyn trailing 4-3, the left fielder hit a bases-clearing double. It made the score 6-4, Brooklyn.

"They're fun to watch and the hitters get to pad their stats but nobody's really happy about a game like that," Brooklyn manager Marc Fulghum. "I promise you I'm not happy."
