Hurler Jim Hovekamp gave the Oxford Owls a solid start. The native of Ennis, Texas helped his team defeat the Tampa Tarpons, 2-1, at Ballpark of Oxford. The win for the Owls raised their record to 48-44.

Alejandro Najera had a big run-scoring double for the Owls in the bottom of the third inning. With Oxford leading 1-0 and a runner on 3rd, he got a changeup from Yoshihito Matsuda, who is tied for 5th in the ECL in innings pitched with 108.0, and swatted a double to left. It was his 15th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Owls ahead, 2-0.

"I'm proud of the way our guys played today to come out with this win," Najera told the Oxford Gazette.
