Schleif Hits Two Homers in 5-2 Win for Virginia Beach
|
The Virginia Beach Mariners defeated the Florida Fire Frogs by the score of 5-2, with the biggest share of the credit going to catcher Louie Schleif. Schleif went 2 for 3 with 2 home runs and a walk, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice for the Mariners on the day. The win was credited to 25-year old left-handed pitcher Lucky Calderoni in relief. His record improves to 2-1. Rey Leyva took the loss. The 6th-place Mariners improved to 44-47.
Early in the game, Schleif had a 3-run home run for Virginia Beach. It was his 13th home run of the season and put the Mariners on top, 3-0.
Schleif attributed the win to his team's "focus and intensity."
