Carolina shortstop Johnny Rangel had a fantastic day at the plate at Five County Stadium, knocking out 5 hits and pacing his club to a win, 20-4.

"It was like I was hitting Little League pitching," Rangel said after his 5-for-5 performance against the Red Sox. "No offense meant to Salem, but it was like I was back in little league again -- I could see the ball that well. But this wasn't a kid park, it was Five County Stadium."

After the game, his manager elaborated on the shortstop's improvements, saying Rangel spent the offseason trying to shorten his swing and stay inside the ball.

"That's what I'm trying to do," Rangel said. "Be quick to the ball and let it travel a little farther so I get a better look at it."

Johnny Rangel singled in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off W.J. Sop in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off W.J. Sop in the 7th and doubled in the 7th.

In 80 games this season, Rangel has batted at a .247 pace with 60 hits and 6 home runs.
