Flying Tigers Turn Back Mariners, 4-2
|
Joker Marchant Stadium was the site of a competitive game between the Virginia Beach Mariners and Lakeland Flying Tigers.
Lakeland turned a fine outing from starter Dan Coy into a victory over the Virginia Beach Mariners at Joker Marchant Stadium. The final score was 4-2. Coy yielded 1 run over 6.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 3, and struck out 6. His record improves to 7-3.
Sean Penney had a big 2-run triple for the Flying Tigers in the bottom of the second inning. With Lakeland leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a sinker from 23-year old right-handed pitcher K.J. Nelson and swatted a triple to left-center. It was his 2nd triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Flying Tigers ahead, 3-0.
"Being able to contribute to a win is always a great feeling," Penney told the Lakeland Times.
Lakeland, now 36-39, holds down 7th place in the East Coast League Florida Division.
