Mariners Win Close Shave, 5-4
|
The Virginia Beach Mariners defeated the Winston-Salem Dash, 5-4, at BB&T Ballpark. Virginia Beach third baseman Damian Folkman had a superb performance. He was 3 for 5 with 3 singles. He drove in 3 runs. Anthony Dunn, now 2-2, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. The 5th-place Mariners improved to 33-41.
Had Folkman not come through in the top of the tenth, who knows how the game would've ended? But with two down, Folkman hit a run-scoring single. The Mariners took the lead, 5-4, and never looked back.
"Took some scratching and clawing," said Folkman. "But we got it done."
