St. Lucie 3-0 Losers to Fire Frogs
|
Florida used a superb performance from starting pitcher Ethan Shirey to down the St. Lucie Mets, 3-0. Shirey yielded no runs over 6.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 3 hits, walked 2, and struck out 9. His record improves to 6-4. Earning his 11th save of the year was Coy Flora.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Fire Frogs had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the fourth, when third baseman Joshua Jones hit a 2-run single. The single came off Helmut Jacob and made the score 3-0, Fire Frogs. Jones went 1-3. He drove in 2 runs.
"When I go out there," said Shirey, "the last thing I want to do is let my teammates down."
The Fire Frogs now own a record of 35-36.
