Mariners Earn 12-6 Home Win
|
The Virginia Beach Mariners weathered an outstanding game by Bradenton second baseman Chance Cira to topple the Marauders, 12-6. Cira was 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. Jordan Massey, the winning pitcher, improved to 2-4. He pitched 5 innings, giving up 7 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 6 and walking 5. The second-place Marauders have dropped 5 straight games.
The Mariners got a gift in the bottom of the fourth inning, when they were leading 2-1. With one out and the bases loaded, Levi Curry reached on an error by the 2B, driving in 1 run. It made the score 3-1, Virginia Beach.
"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Curry told a Virginia Beach Gazette reporter. "Sometimes we just need to relax."
