Mariners Take Down Dash, 4-3
|
The Winston-Salem Dash got a superb performance from pitcher Jay Bungert. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Virginia Beach. The Mariners won the game, 4-3. Bungert threw 6.1 innings of shutout ball. Leo Barrientos got the win, improving to 4-0. He pitched 7 innings, giving up 6 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 3 and walking 2. Joshua Hollins earned the save for Virginia Beach, his 4th.
Virginia Beach used a clutch hit from Devern González to get the win. The right fielder drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Mariners ahead, 4-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a doozy.
González called the win the result of "everyone working in tandem."
With the win, Virginia Beach pushed its record to 26-24.
