The Virginia Beach Mariners managed to get by the Lynchburg Hillcats, 2-1, at Virginia Beach Ballpark. Virginia Beach pitcher Alberto Baxter set himself apart with his performance. Sidney Lupien was credited with the save for Virginia Beach, his 1st of the season. Even with the win, the Mariners have a dismal 14-27 record.

With scoring opportunities rare, the Mariners had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the third, when designated hitter Shawn Raby hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Bastien Copeland and made the score 2-0, Mariners. Raby went 1-3 with a walk.

Raby was in a reflective mood after the contest. He told the Virginia Beach Citizen, "Every game is it's own challenge. That's what keeps the competitive fire alive."
