St. Lucie Beats Dunedin, 5-2
|
The St. Lucie Mets topped the Dunedin Blue Jays, 5-2, in East Coast League action at Tradition Field. The standout performance belonged to St. Lucie pitcher and Villa Jaragua, Dominican Republic, native Vito Ruiz. Reliever Brooks Holsten picked up the win. His record improves to 1-2. Dean Lachapelle took the loss. Wes Stinson was credited with the save for St. Lucie, his 3rd of the season.
The Mets got a big at-bat from center fielder Waldis Jiménez. For the game, Jiménez was 2-4 with a double. He drove in 2 runs. In the bottom of the sixth, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 5th double of the season gave St. Lucie a 4-2 lead.
Mets manager Octavio Collazo raved about Ruiz after the game. "I thought Vito was 'lights out.'"
