Red Sox Knock Off Cocoa, 4-1
|
The Salem Red Sox got a strong performance from pitcher Damien Kanzler, who stymied the Cocoa offense en route to a win, 4-1, at G. Richard Pfitzner Stadium. The winning pitcher was Kanzler, now 1-0. He tossed 5.1 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 6. Buddy Kirkwood earned save number 1 this season.
It could have been a different outcome for Salem, had it not been for Jack Tizio, the 25-year old third baseman . Tizio contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the third inning to put Salem up, 2-0.
"You have to trust that what you're doing is going to produce results," said Kanzler.
Salem, with the win, climbs to 10-25.
