Mariners Stay Hot, Beat Renegades, 5-1
|
The Virginia Beach Mariners picked up a win at George M. Steinbrenner Field, topping the Hudson Valley Renegades, 5-1. On the mound for Virginia Beach was right-hander Aaron Martin. He played a principal role in the triumph. Martin yielded 1 run over 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 4 hits, walked 2, and struck out 7. His record improves to 1-3. Virginia Beach, at 17-19, occupies 6th place in the East Coast League Mideast Division.
Richard Bunnell dealt the Renegades a blow in the top of the eighth. Batting with the bases loaded and Virginia Beach leading 2-1, Bunnell hit a first pitch fastball for a run-scoring single.
Virginia Beach manager Tristan Johnson said his team played a "no nonsense" game.
