Virginia Beach Picks Up Another L
|
The Tampa Tarpons earned a close win over the Virginia Beach Mariners, thanks in part to Matthew De Gado. The Tampa right-hander, who is tied for 4th in the ECL in strikeouts with 37, played a key role in the 3-2 victory. Yosnier Ruelas locked down his 1st save. Tampa occupies 4th place in the East Coast League Florida Division at 18-12.
Edward Carrillo had a big 2-run home run for the Tarpons in the bottom of the third inning. With Tampa leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a fastball from 22-year old left-handed pitcher Alberto Baxter and punished it. The result was his 2nd home run of the season, which put the Tarpons on top, 3-0.
Afterward, Tarpons manager Connor Ray said, "We had some good at-bats, some big at-bats in some key situations."
