Mariners Fall, 6-3, to Florida
|
The Florida Fire Frogs beat the Virginia Beach Mariners, 6-3, at Osceola County Stadium. Normando Govantes, in particular, was impressive. He was 2 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Picking up the win was Jasey DiMarino. He went 5.1 innings, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits. The right--hander struck out 6 and walked 2. Lee Merklein sewed up the save, his 4th.
With Florida leading 1-0 in the bottom of the first, Govantes hit a fastball from Deroy Polk for a 3-run home run. It was his 4th home run of the season and put the Fire Frogs ahead, 4-0.
"It's always a heck of a lot easier to get to sleep after a win," Govantes told the Florida Herald. "I know I'll rest easy tonight."
Virginia Beach now is 9-14.
