Stone Crabs 3-2 Losers to Mets
|
Murray Friend could take little solace in pitching a good game. The fact is his Charlotte Stone Crabs lost, dropping a 3-2 decision to the St. Lucie Mets at Tradition Field. Immanuel Schmidt, now 1-0, was credited with the win in 3.2 innings of relief. He allowed 1 run on 1 hit, while striking out 3 and walking 1. Charlotte, with the loss, is still a robust 5-2.
The Stone Crabs had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Mets going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 23-year old catcher Jeff Tipton came to the plate. Tipton hit a 2-run home run on a first pitch fastball from Charlotte hurler Murray Friend. It was Tipton's 2nd home run of the year.
"Tip of the cap to the Mets," said Charlotte manager Omar Garcia. "They played a good game."
