Win Goes to Mudcats in Tight Contest
|
Lynchburg left fielder Matt Guillen had a good game, even if his team did not. The Hillcats dropped a 7-4 decision to Carolina at Calvin Falwell Field. Guillen went 3 for 4 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Jason Sheets earned the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2.2 innings. His record is now 1-0. Carolina, with the win, is 4-2.
Carolina used the timely hitting of Ezra Walkup to seize the win. The first baseman stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Mudcats on top, 5-4. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Nervous? No," said Walkup. "It was my time to shine."
