Clippers Drop Blaze, 3-1
|
Pitcher Merlin Sweet was sensational for the Martinez Clippers in his team's 3-1 triumph over the Bakersfield Blaze. Sweet earned the win. Sweet, the winner, moves to 4-5. He threw 5.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 6 and giving up no walks. With the win, Martinez goes to 64-61, while the Blaze fall to 67-58.
Wilton Zepeda had a big run-scoring double for the Clippers in the bottom of the third inning. With Martinez leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a cutter from 24-year old right-handed pitcher Dan Harper and swatted a double to left. It was his 2nd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Clippers ahead, 2-0.
"This level of focus will win us a lot of ballgames," Zepeda said after the game.
