The Bakersfield Blaze had to overcome a good performance from Santa Cruz pitcher V.J. Olaroia to claim a 2-1 win at LoanMart Field. Olaroia went 8 innings and allowed 2 runs. Bakersfield is 64-55 and Santa Cruz, with the loss, 78-41.
Bakersfield used the timely hitting of Dan Dominico to seize the win. The third baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Blaze on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
Dominico said his team "played with a purpose."
