Win Goes to Gulls in Tight Contest
|
The Ventura Gulls picked up a win at Gulls Ballpark, knocking off the Riverside Red Wave, 6-5. Starting pitcher Pete Tanner played a key role in the triumph. Ventura reliever Conrado Turcios picked up the win, upping his record to 3-5. Juan Pablo Payan was saddled with the loss. With the win, Ventura upped its record to 61-52.
Butch Oliva was the walk-off hero for Ventura. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Gulls second baseman hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
"It's great when the crowd goes berserk," Oliva said.
