Nuts Rally to Win, 7-6
|
The timely hitting of Sean Grant helped the Modesto Nuts take down the Bakersfield Blaze, 7-6, in 11 innings. Grant was 3-5 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 4 runs and scored once for the Nuts. Stewart Paulsen closed the game out for Modesto, earning his 1st save. The Nuts, at 87-22, have a comfortable 20-game lead in their division.
Martin Despagna drew 1 walk in 6 plate appearances for Modesto. The 23-year old third baseman had a key at-bat in the top of the 11th. With no one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 6-6 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Roger Miller. It was his 50th RBI of the season.
"If I do my job, we've usually got a good chance to win the game," said Despagna.
