Mavericks Tag Cruisers with 9-6 Loss
Led by 22-year-old Trent Coats, the High Desert Mavericks knocked off the Santa Cruz Cruisers, 9-6. Coats was 2 for 4 with a home run, while adding 5 RBI and scoring once for the Mavericks. Tony Mateo picked up the win in relief. His record improves to 3-1. Sherman Fritz suffered the loss. The Mavericks saw their win-loss record go to 51-53. At the same time, the Cruisers fell to 55-49.

Coats contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for High Desert in the top of the fifth. With his team trailing 5-3, Coats took a fastball from Sherman Fritz and stroked the home run to right-center. His 2nd home run of the season allowed the Mavericks to leap in front, 6-5.

"We got the victory," said Coats. "That's all that matters at the end of the day."
