Late Offense Lifts Riverside to 2-0 Victory
|
John Thurman Field was the site of a true pitchers' duel.
The Riverside Red Wave banked on Lennox Isaacs and he turned in a masterful performance. The right-hander kept the Modesto hitters in check. The final score was 2-0, Red Wave. Kevin Hien sewed up the save, his 1st.
The game was at a stalemate until shortstop Hidalgo Mendez came to bat in the top of the eighth. Facing Modesto pitcher Kaden Kott, he hit a first pitch fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Riverside on top, 1-0.
In postgame remarks, Mendez applauded his team's "business-like approach."
The Red Wave improved their record to 51-46 with the win over Modesto.
