Cruisers Earn Clutch Win, 2-1
The Sonoma Stompers got a superb performance from pitcher Orvil Jones. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Santa Cruz. The Cruisers won the game, 2-1. Jones threw 6.0 innings of shutout ball. Santa Cruz reliever Keith Mulligan picked up the win, raising his record to 2-2. Steve Cheney was tagged with the loss. At 53-44, the Cruisers find themselves in third place in the California League North Division.

Batting in the bottom of the ninth, 23-year old center fielder Martim Fuentez had a real shot to win the game. Sonoma pitcher Steve Cheney was determined not to let it happen. But with no outs, Fuentez hit a run-scoring single. The Cruisers had a walk-off triumph.

"There's nothing like the buzz of a walk-off win," Fuentez said.
