With 5-1 Win, Ports Improve to 52-43
|
The Stockton Ports knocked off the Bakersfield Blaze, 5-1, in California League action at Banner Island Ballpark. Stockton pitcher and Fenton, Michigan, native Roger Estrada had an outstanding performance. Estrada yielded 1 run over 7.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 3 hits, walked 2, and struck out 4. His record improves to 8-5. Freddy McNelis collected his 6th save.
Will Martinage, who is tied for 7th in the CAL in extra base hits with 37, chipped in a 2-run home run for Stockton in the bottom of the fourth. For the game, the shortstop had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 3 RBI.
"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Stockton manager Tristan Batista.
The victory gives the Ports a record of 52-43.
