In a low-scoring clash between Riverside and Ventura, pitcher Drew Thomas was a difference-maker. The left-hander earned praise for his performance in the 3-2 Red Wave win. The win cannot erase the fact that Riverside still has a disappointing 33-63 record.
Had Lyndon Scaife not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Scaife hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Red Wave.
Afterward, Red Wave manager Jim Young said, "We had some good at-bats, some big at-bats in some key situations."
