Blaze Fall Short, 5-4, at San Jose
|
The San Jose Giants topped the Bakersfield Blaze, 5-4, in California League action at San Jose Municipal Stadium. The game was highlighted by the performance of San Jose pitcher Tully Zach. Jackson Fritsch, credited with the win, is now 4-9. He allowed no runs on 1 hit. Earning his 7th save of the year was Dale Aschwanden.
Had Ricky Castro not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Castro hit a 2-run single. That made the score 5-3, in favor of the Giants.
"I made some pitches when I had to," said Zach.
The 5th-place Giants have won 4 straight.
