Martinez Scrapes Out 7-3 Win
|
The Martinez Clippers beat the Sonoma Stompers, 7-3, in 10 innings at Bright House Field. Newton Veatch, in particular, was impressive. He went 2 for 5 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 4. The win was credited to Lucas Lajos in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Dave Diefenderfer took the loss. The 4th-place Stompers now sit at 40-30.
Veatch had a game-changing home run in the top of the tenth. On a first pitch fastball from Dave Diefenderfer, he banged a grand slam home run to right, giving the Clippers a 7-3 lead. It was the 1st home run of the year for Veatch.
In postgame comments, Veatch said, "I think we gave the fans their money's worth."
