Lake Elsinore Beaten, 4-2, by Pittsburg
|
The Pittsburg Diamonds faced a tenacious opponent in Lake Elsinore pitcher Sohichiro Katayama, but still scratched out a win at Lake Elsinore Diamond by a final score of 4-2 in 11 innings. Katayama went 6.1 innings and allowed no runs. Gabe Nichols snagged the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits over 1.2 innings. He's now 1-2 on the season. Antonio Carias earned the save for Pittsburg, his 1st of the year.
Pittsburg used a timely hit from Peter Lytle to get the win. The first baseman stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the 11th inning to put the Diamonds ahead, 3-2. It was his only hit in 6 at-bats, but it made an impact.
Lytle told a Pittsburg Gazette reporter that he felt "ecstatic" after the win.
At 10-62, Pittsburg is in last place in the California League North Division.
