Mavericks Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Diamonds, 4-2
|
The Pittsburg Diamonds got a sterling performance from pitcher Brett Leach, but the High Desert Mavericks still prevailed, 4-2. Leach threw 6.0 innings of 4-hit ball. Joe Church picked up his 8th save of the season. The Mavericks are now 21-36.
The game was at a stalemate until third baseman Max Hebein came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Pittsburg pitcher Jim Kennedy, he hit a first pitch fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting High Desert on top, 3-2.
"It was a team effort and I thought the guys had a good plan and approach," said Hebein after the game.
