Mavericks 2B Branch has 3 RBI in Win
|
The 7-6 High Desert win over Ventura was due largely to Eli Branch. The Mavericks second baseman went 2-2 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. Denzil Robinson, the winning pitcher, is now 7-1. He went 6 innings, allowing 1 run on 2 hits, while fanning 3 and walking 2. Tyler Livni finished to wrap up his 13th save.
The Mavericks got a big boost from third baseman Jeb Elder who had a run-scoring walk in the bottom of the first inning off Gulls hurler Wink Dore. It was his 9th walk of the season and put High Desert on top, 1-0.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Ventura manager George Iseminger. "But we decided not to take it."
With the win over Ventura, the Mavericks improved to 39-17.
