High Desert Edges Storm, 5-4, Owens Clutch
|
High Desert designated hitter Alan Owens was instrumental in helping the Mavericks triumph, 5-4, over the Lake Elsinore Storm. Owens went 3 for 3 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. The winner was Derek Lowe in relief. His record improves to 1-1. Martin Love took the loss. High Desert's record now stands at 16-25, placing them 6th in the California League South Division.
High Desert took advantage of an error in the bottom of the eighth inning. The game was tied, 4-4, when Russ Andrew hit a run-scoring single that was misplayed. It put the Mavericks in front, 5-4.
"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," Owens said after the game.
