High Desert Triumphs with Late Surge

The High Desert Mavericks got a stellar performance from pitcher Jason D'Albora, who handcuffed the San Bernardino offense en route to a win, 3-1, at Grainger Stadium. The win was credited to Clinton Ricks in relief. His record improves to 3-1. Max Fen took the loss. Ulisses Salazar recorded the save for High Desert, his 10th of the season.
Had Kyle Passafiume not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Passafiume hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 1-0, in favor of the Mavericks.
"Jason made the big pitches when he needed to," said High Desert manager D.J. Schultheis.
Today's win puts High Desert at 15-24, while San Bernardino falls to 18-21.
