Cubs Edge Cleveland in Pitching Duel
|
Fans watched the Chicago Cubs and the Cleveland Indians fight to the finish.
In a low-scoring affair between the Chicago Cubs and the Cleveland Indians, pitcher Erminio Tomsjansen was the difference between victory and defeat. The Chicago left-hander earned accolades in the 1-0 Cubs win. Tomsjansen, now 6-6, was the winner. In 6.2 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 10, walking 0, and allowing no runs. A.K. Perozo converted his 8th save in 11 tries.
Chicago designated hitter Sebastian Reznik contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With two down, he hit a sinker into left-center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 98th hit of the season and put the Cubs ahead, 1-0.
"There were things that we could've improved upon," said Cubs manager Phil Ross, "but all in all, I'm satisfied with our performance."
The 4th-place Indians have dropped 4 straight games.
