Mavericks Handle Storm, Grab 3-1 Win
|
The High Desert Mavericks withstood a fine game by Lake Elsinore third baseman Austin Meier at Mavericks Stadium, to upend the Storm, 3-1. Meier was 3 for 3 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk. High Desert reliever Haden Reilly picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Ron Roos absorbed the loss. For Lake Elsinore, now 4-16, the season is off to a dismal start.
Jeb Elder went 1-3 with a walk for High Desert. The 21-year old second baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring walk off Ron Roos. It was his 6th walk of the season.
Elder attributed the win to "energy and focus on the part of everyone."
