AquaSox Take 2-1 Lead with 3-2 Win
|
Their bats were silent and Everett had a rookie on the mound. No problem.
On a day when the AquaSox struggled to string together much offense, the club got a big boost from 19-year-old starter Ramón Ortiz. The right-hander quieted the Boise Hawks at Memorial Stadium to help Everett take the 3-2 decision and seize a 2-1 advantage in the best-of-7 Divisional Series.
Everett used a clutch at-bat from Yassel Burgos to capture the win. The catcher hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the AquaSox ahead, 3-2. It was his lone hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
After the game, Everett manager Johnny Stricklin applauded the team's effort. "They busted their tails out there," he said.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Memorial Stadium in Boise.
