Kannapolis Intimidators manager Wally Franklin knew it was a gamble to give the start to rookie Stewie Asher. It was a good gamble to take.

Pitching in front of a supportive hometown crowd, the 22-year-old left-hander silenced the visiting Greensboro Grasshoppers at CMC-NorthEast Stadium today. The Intimidators shut out the Grasshoppers by a final score of 1-0, to give the Intimidators a 2-1 advantage in the best-of-7 Divisional Series.

Asher gave Kannapolis a solid start. The left-hander allowed no runs on 4 hits over 7 innings.

"Runs were at a premium," said Kannapolis manager Wally Franklin.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at CMC-NorthEast Stadium in Kannapolis.
