Escalante, Bakersfield Start Divisional Series Strong with Home Win
|
Bakersfield Blaze manager Brian O'Kray knew it was a gamble to give the start to rookie Wanderley Escalante. It was a good gamble to take.
Pitching in front of a supportive hometown crowd, the 22-year-old left-hander silenced the visiting Riverside Red Wave at Jim Perry Stadium. The Blaze shut out the Red Wave by a final score of 3-0, to give the Blaze a 1-0 advantage in the best-of-7 Divisional Series.
Escalante confounded Riverside hitters. Over 8 innings, he allowed no runs on 3 hits.
"I was able to really locate my pitches tonight," said Escalante.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Jim Perry Stadium in Bakersfield.
