Nuts Running Away With DS After 2-1 Victory
|
The 21-year-old rookie on the mound turned out to be the least of the San Bernardino Stampede worries.
Giving a high-pressure playoff start to youngster Mark Joyce seemed like a risky move for the Stampede, but it was one of the few things that went right at Grainger Stadium. Joyce tossed 5.2 solid innings, but it was all for naught after San Bernardino dropped a 2-1 decision. With the win, Modesto took a 3-0 lead in the best-of-7 Divisional Series.
Modesto used the timely hitting of Keegan Gaspard to seize the win. The catcher stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Nuts on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We had the right guys up at the right times," said San Bernardino manager Stephon Cohen. "We just didn't cash in."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Grainger Stadium in San Bernardino.
