Nuts Even With Red Wave After Walk-Off Win
|
The Modesto Nuts and the Riverside Red Wave will take the Wild Card Series to a decisive 7th game. The Nuts got a dramatic walk-off victory in a must-win situation to beat the Red Wave, 2-0, at John Thurman Field and force the series into what will essentially be a one-game playoff. Modesto right-hander Yasson Nero had a sizable impact in the win. He threw 5.1 innings of shutout ball.
The game-ending blow was delivered by Jacob Bridges in the bottom of the ninth. That's when he hit a 2-run home run off 23-year old left-handed pitcher Leo Almonte to win it for Modesto and cause the home crowd to erupt in celebration.
Bridges attributed the win to "a well-rounded effort by the whole team."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at John Thurman Field in Modesto.
