Raucous Pioneer Park Crowd Propels Smokies to 2-1 Victory; Series Tied at 1
|
The Harlan Smokies nearly wasted a strong game from starter Paul Wormley, but were saved by some timely hitting in a walk-off win over the Pulaski Yankees today.
Wormley threw 5.2 innings of shutout ball. The win allowed Harlan to force a 1-1 tie in the best-of-7 Wild Card Series.
Harlan won the game in the bottom of the 12th inning. With no outs and Feliz Santamaria on the mound for Pulaski, second baseman Jason Charles hit a dramatic solo home run, bringing Smokies fans to their feet.
Wormley attributed the win to "energy and focus on the part of everyone."
Game 3 is scheduled for Thursday at Calfee Park in Pulaski.
