Wild Card Series Game 1 Victory for Welner and Winston-Salem
Ashton Welner and the Winston-Salem Dash opened the Wild Card Series in brilliant fashion, shutting out the visiting Charlotte Stone Crabs at BB&T Ballpark, 5-0, and securing an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Welner, the Dash right-hander, threw 5.0 innings of shutout ball.

Breiling Boza dealt the Stone Crabs a blow in the bottom of the fifth. Batting with runners on 1st and 2nd and Winston-Salem leading 2-0, Boza hit a 2-2 sinker for a 2-run triple.

"There's nothing like the postseason," said Welner, "to ramp up the pressure."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at BB&T Ballpark in Winston-Salem.
