Auburn Advances to Regional Championship Series
|
The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat were on full display tonight at Centennial Field as the Divisional Series stretched to the final game.
It was the Auburn Doubledays feeling the thrill of victory, with a 5-1 win over the Vermont Lake Monsters, who were feeling the devastation of coming up short in their quest to make the Regional Championship Series.
"There's no way around it -- this sucks," said Vermont manager Charles Chaney. "Congratulations to Auburn, but I won't sugarcoat it, no one is happy about anything that transpired here tonight."
Instrumental in the 4-3 series win was left fielder Santiago Mora, who was named MVP. He hit .323 with a .364 on-base percentage. He had 0 home runs, drove in 1 RBI and scored 4 runs.
"We've got the most important stat of all and that's this final win -- that's the one that matters," he said.
The Regional Championship Series matchups and schedule will be announced after the Divisional Series finishes.
